Medicus Golf Secures AJGA Exemptions for Emerald Coast Junior Golf Tour November 3, 2009

Medicus Golf Learning Center at Emerald Bay GC in Destin, Florida, is proud to announce that they will again sponsor the Emerald Coast Junior Golf Tour for 2010. With this announcement though, Medicus Golf role has expanded even further to help junior golfers “Live Their Vision”.
In 2006 Medicus Golf embarked on a mission with the AJGA to assist junior golf by sponsoring the Medicus Golf Preseason Tournament Series. The Series included twenty-four events from 2006-2008 designed specifically for first-time AJGA members or those members who have not yet participated in an AJGA Open event, Invitational or Nike Golf Junior All-Star Series event.
During that time a very strong relationship was built between the AJGA and Medicus Golf. During those 3 years Randy Sparks, Director of Operations for Medicus Golf and staff spoke to approximately 1500 junior participants and approximately 2500+ parents at these events as part of the AJGA required player and parent meetings. Chuck Evans, Director of Instruction for Medicus Golf and Golf Magazine Top 100 Instructors in America and staff also provided clinics and skill challenges at the events.
Due to the above relationship Randy made contact with the AJGA and spoke of the good things happening on the Emerald Coast of Florida and Junior Golf. Specifically, the Medicus Golf Junior Development Program and the Emerald Coast Junior Golf Tour headed by Chris Poate and his wife Michelle.
To the pleasure of all involved, the AJGA will now provide the Emerald Coast Golf Tour, over 12 year old age groups, with exemptions for 2010. The exemptions will be based on the Medicus Cup which will be a series of six tournaments between January and the end of April. The point’s winner in each age group will then earn the exemption.
All of us at Medicus Golf are pleased to be able and provide golf opportunities and support for junior golf. Also, a special thank you goes to Jearl McCall, Director of Golf at Emerald Bay GC and Steve White, Director of Golf at Seascape Golf and Seascape Resort, where Medicus Golf operates its instruction programs. They were at the forefront in offering their support and assistance.
Of course this would not be possible without the drive of Chris Poate and his wife Michelle who took on the startup of the tour. While others may have been talking about such a tour, Chris and Michelle made it happen.

Medicus Golf Junior Leads Team to State Finals October 28, 2009

Leading into his senior year of high school golf Brett Ochsenreiter and FWB High School golf team had high expectations with the return of all its starters. Wanting to go out and just try to play no pressure golf and enjoy those last high school moments, Brett has shown that at some point in this game one must see ball, see hole and put ball in hole.
Leading the field and earning the low medalist round of 3 under 69, Brett and teammates advanced to the regionals in Tallahassee Florida. Anticipation was high but again Brett did not disappoint as he met the challenges as he once again earned medalist honors by shooting a 4 under 68. With that fine showing Brett has now lead his team to the Florida High School 1-2A State Championships.
The state tournament will be played Tuesday and Wednesday at Silver Springs Shores, The Country Club in Ocala, and the Vikings are excited after turning in their best overall performance of the season. With a “just let go” and enjoy your final high school golf rounds, we are confidant of a fine showing by Brett.
Congratulations Brett and good luck at state!

Hunter Gullickson, Medicus Junior Development Player, finished with a 74, two strokes ahead of Catholic’s Justin Stills and Clay Vannoy.
Hunter, the new boys district champion, also had the right approach to his game.
Hunter made a few long putts on the way to his 2-over par finish, including a 45-foot birdie putt on No. 15.
“I just kept my driver on the fairway,” said Gullickson, a junior who is playing only his second season for the Crusaders’ golf team after putting focus on the sport last year and then joining the Medicus Golf Junior Development Program. “I putted decent. I made a few long putts.”
Great job Hunter, and good luck in the upcoming Florida High School Regional’s.

Medicus Golf Juniors Dominate Leaderboard at Indian Bayou Emerald Coast Junior Golf Tour Event October 1, 2009

Indian Bayou played very long and was a good test for all divisions on Sunday. Presenting itself in immaculate condition on a hot and sunny late summer afternoon, Indian Bayou once again proved why it is one of the favorites on our tour.
Medicus Golf Junior Development Player Trey Aguirre was back to his old self after illness, shooting a back nine 37 to distance himself from the pack to win the Boys 14-15 division and almost lock down the Year End Points race.
The Boys 12-13 saw the close finish we have become accustomed to. Medicus Golf Junior Brock Ochsenreiter, only 11 years old but plays in the older age group shot 79 to take second place honors. This event was a great tune-up for Brock as he travels to play in the PGA National junior tournament the weekend of October 10.
In the girls’ 12-14 division Medicus Golf Juniors Madison Pacheco and Antonia Poate finished 2nd and 3rd to finish out of first place by 2 and 3 strokes respectively.
Congratulations to all our juniors who continue to perform at a very high standard.

A Rising Star in the Medicus Junior Development Program September 20, 2009

Once again Lady Fortune shines on Medicus Juniors at the recent Emerald Coast Junior Tour event played at Santa Rosa Beach GC. After all the rain we’ve had locally the course played very long and the humidity was almost unbearably high. Despite the conditions two players emerged from the Medicus camp and performed at a very high level.
The Boys 14-15 Division played off the back tees and saw Harrison Krause, the youngest player in the division, shot 78 to finish in 2nd place by three shots.
In the Girls 12-14 Division, Madison Pacheco also shot a very impressive 39-39-78 for a comfortable win over Jade Sanders and points series leader, Kayla Bloor. Madison managed to par all Par3’s and has now moved into 2nd place in the annual rankings. Madison has also moved up the rankings despite playing in a limited amount of events. Madison is a rising star and at only 12 years old, her distance, scoring and play rivals that of the boys in the 12-13 year old age group. A star is definitely being developed.
Congratulations to all our juniors and we look forward to further success in the near future.

Trey Aguirre and Madison Pacheco Win Arrowhead Junior Tournament September 1, 2009

Two of Medicus Player Development Juniors battled their way to victories in the respective age divisions at the Arrowhead Junior hosted by the ever demanding Emerald Bay Golf Club.
After struggling with the small greens and tight golf course in the first round, Trey Aguirre (15-18 age group) battled back in the second round for the win. Trey’s “never give up attitude” bode well for him as he trailed by 5 strokes after the first round. Entering the second round Trey needed to shoot a low number and did precisely that be shooting the only under par of the tournament. His 71 (-1 ) under par round catapulted him over 4 others.
In the 12-14 girls division, Madison Pacheco (12 years old) defeated older and more experienced field to take home the hardware. Madison has just recently begun to compete in tournaments and her hard work and dedication have paid off big time. Chuck Evans, Executive Director of Instruction and TOP 100 Teachers in America, see Madison as a future star with unreal potential. “It is seldom that we see junior girl golfers at age 12 being able to hit their drives 200+ yards but Madison has this ability,” said Evans. Not only did Madison win the 12-14 year old division but she also took 3rd place overall against High School golfers.
Congratulations to Trey and Madison!!!

Medicus Golf Junior’s Win and Shine at Divot Derby July 29, 2009

The 52nd annual Divot Derby junior golf tournament, now sponsored by PGA Tour star Bubba Watson, saw Medicus Golf Junior Development Players continue their strong tournament play.
In the boys division, Brandon Jowers, a Fort Walton Beach resident, held off a final-round charge from Catholic High grad Blake Olson, who shot a 4-under-68, but finished two shots behind Jowers. This was Brandon’s third win in a row.
Jowers had a 2-under 70 at Perdido Bay after shooting a 1-over 73 at Marcus Pointe.
“I knew I had to make something happen,” Jowers said. “I wasn’t hitting the ball much different; I was just making putts. Off the tee, this course is very intimidating. Shooting 70, I feel like I played tremendous. I have no complaints at all.” With this victory Brandon won the boys overall and was named the Stan Stanovich Award Winner.
In the boys division Trey Aguirre won the 2 flight while Brock Ochsenreiter shot a 77 to win the 10-11 age group.
In the Girls 12-13 age group, new Medicus Junior member Madison Pacheco, in only her 4th tournament, shot 90 to finish in 2nd place.
Congratulations to all our juniors and families!! Great playing!!!!!!

Medicus Development Junior Misses Cut at US Junior AM July 27, 2009
Posted by medicusdestin in General Instruction.add a comment
Though Brett Ochsenreiter saw his week end prematurely on Tuesday, after missing the cut at the 2009 US Junior AM Championship, the experience and memories will last a lifetime. Brett was accompanied on the trip by his parents and swing coach Chuck Evans, Director of Instruction for Medicus Golf and Golf Magazine TOP 100 Instructors in America, and Randy Sparks Director of Operations.
“I played pretty solid,” said Ochsenreiter, a rising senior with the Vikings. “I had a couple bad holes, and I would have loved to have shot better but the course was extremely difficult.”
Brett and the rest of the field got the royal treatment off the course — the program included speeches from Annika Sorenstam and Trump — but the course itself proved to be a rude host. Brett’s two-day total of 156 was two off the cut for match play and soggy weather on Tuesday made for less than ideal conditions on a course that was already considered long with extra shaggy rough.
On the second day, Brett arrived at the 14th hole comfortably under the cut at 4-over for the day but hit into a troublesome hazard to quadruple bogey the hole. He tried to make up the difference over the final four holes but the damage had been done.
“I didn’t swing hard enough at it and it went into the left water hazard,” Ochsenreiter said. “I had a bunch of trees and I had to drop it, and I hit another tree and it went into the same hazard. That kind of set me way back.”
It was a mildly disappointing effort but the silver lining is that a lot of kids would have traded places with Brett.
Congratulations Brett for this monumental achievement!
